Test Tools Framework

While ensuring interoperability is of utmost importance to have unambiguous test specifications, the test cases described in it also need to be executed in test tools. In the past, test tools were developed or adapted on a case by case basis and resources associated to that were always an important issue.

With over 20 years of experience in such challenges and with the support of its committee MTS (Methods of Tests and Specifications), ETSI has been involved to address the issue, has promoted formal language such as TTCN-3 and helped to optimize the execution of such TTCN-3 test cases in various tool environments.

The TTCN-3 approach also includes a complete test environment framework with well defined interfaces and modules which can be reused or develop for a particular technology.

The complete TTCN-3 approach provides a complete modular and open environment. The industry has supported it and plenty of success stories can be found of the easy execution of ETSI TTCN-3 test cases in test tool environments ready to compile or run them in a cost effective way.

From these experiences and best practices, Interopolis can advice in such test tools framework. It is not intended for Interopolis to develop a complete tool but more to provide advice and engineering on how to find on the shelves or develop modules and how to assemble them in an efficient and cost effective way to reduce development and maintenance costs while increasing quality and reusability of the overall environment.
